Schneider Electric Recalls PowerPact J-Frame Circuit Breakers Due to Fire, Burn, Electrical Shock Hazards | CPSC.gov

Hazard: The circuit breakers will not trip during an overload condition.

The recall involves PowerPact J-frame molded case circuit breakers with thermal-magnetic trip units. The circuit breakers are made of black plastic and have a three-position breaker handle that indicates whether the breaker is off, on or tripped. The recalled circuit breakers are rated for 150 to 250 amps, have interruption ratings of D, G, J, L and R. There Are Now 3 Million Data Centers in the U.S., and Climbing

Data centers, the key backbone of the cloud, are growing larger and more energy intensive, prompting the Department of Energy (DOE) to launch a new initiative on Tuesday aimed at improving their energy efficiency.

According to DOE statistics, data center electricity use doubled between 2001 to 2006, from 30 to 60 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, and stood at about 100 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity as of 2013. This amounts to about 2% of all U.S. electricity use and climbing.

Cable Entry Seals Prevent Pest Damage – Product Design & Development

There are many documented instances of damage to critical electrical equipment caused by wildlife activity. For example, $300,000 of damage was caused by a squirrel to the electrical equipment at a community center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, causing a power surge that impacted the heating and air conditioning system and some parts of a boiler system.

Understanding the behavior of pests, including mosquitos, bees, snakes, rodents, ants, etc., is essential to assist electrical and mechanical designers in designing cable, pipe and conduit penetrations that are protected against infestation.
